Characteristics, Duties, and Responsibilities

  • Teaches assigned courses in accordance with description published in catalog and the approved course outline, in accordance with schedule of classes and incorporating alternative approaches, technologies and methods when possible.
  • Meets all scheduled class meetings and all schedule office hours.
  • Advises Department Chairperson of absences in a timely manner.
  • Maintains accurate grade and attendance records for students enrolled in classes and submits required reports to Department Chairperson and/or Student Records Office.
  • Able to travel to various clinical site as needed for student assessment.
  • Cooperates with Department Chairperson in developing and revising courses of study and curricula.
  • Incorpor! ates an appreciation of diverse lifestyles, cultures and natio! nal perspectives into courses.
  • Submits progress reports on students for counseling and record keeping purposes and discusses with counselors and other appropriate personnel any problems of students which may require special attention.
  • Advises students and/or performs special assigned duties related to registration. Serves as faculty advisor to students and provides for interaction with students outside the classroom environment.
  • Engages in assessment of leaning outcomes and demonstrates the use of the results of these assessments in course planning.
  • Specifies competency-based student outcomes as the objectives of all courses.
  • Plans in advance to ensure availability of supplies, textbooks, and classroom equipment requisite to successful teaching of assigned classes.
  • Incorporates the use of the library into courses, uses writing as an instructional method, and utilizes computing and other academic technologies in courses w! hen possible.
  • Engages in continual professional development activities as specified by the appropriate academic officer.
  • Adheres to professional standards of conduct.
  • Represents the College to the community.
  • Adheres to College policies and procedures.
  • Perform other activities/tasks as assigned by the Department Chair.
Education Requirements

  • Master’s Degree in nursing required.
  • Current N.J. RN nursing license
Preferred Experience

  • Maternal/Child/Pediatrics and/or Adult Medical-Surgical clinical background
  • Minimum of 3 years clinical nursing experience, and/or at least 1 year of instructional experience in a nursing education program within the past 5 years.
Competencies and Skills Required

  • Demonstrated mastery of subject matter or discipline.
  • Demonstrated ability to teach and evaluate undergraduate students.
  • ! Knowledge of competency-based education.
  • Ability to travel to ! clinical sites within and outside of Union County.
Physical Demands and Work Environment

  • This position’s duties are normally performed in a typical interior/residence work environment, based on the activity scheduled.
  • Some physical effort required; however, the employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
  • No or very limited exposure to physical risk.
  • Some travel required.

Terms of Employment

Daily Clinical: Adult Medical-Surgica! l on Thursdays from 8am-5pm.

Weekend Clinical: Adult Medical-Surgical and Maternal/Child/Pediatrics from 8am-5pm.

Flexible schedule to meet department needs. Some evening, weekends, and extended hours will be required. May be assigned to one or more campuses to teach. Ability and willingness to travel on short notice to all on and off- campus sites as needed by the college. Employee must establish primary residency in New Jersey within one year of appointment unless an exemption applies.
