Summary: To assist the pharmacist in pharmaceutical preparation, distribution, and record keeping functions of pharmaceutical supplies and perform a variety of technical pharmacy services in the De! partment, designated satellites, and service and patient care areas. Education: High School diploma or equivalent. College courses preferred. Experience: Two to three years pharmacy technician experience preferred.
Special Skills: Current pharmacy technician certification preferred. Ability to perform work accurately with attention to detail within specified time periods. Ability to work cooperatively with health-system and pharmacy staff. Ability to handle frequent interruptions and adapt to changes in workload and work schedule.
Ability to set priorities and solve problems. Ability to respond quickly to emergency requests. Effective communication skills (orally and in writing). Ability to assist in meeting the pharmaceutical care needs of neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients.
Supervision Expected: None Supervision Received: Direct and functional supervision from the Pharmacist and Manager, Pharmacy Working! Conditions: Hospital environment and well-lighted unit enviro! nment. Requires repetitive use of hands and fingers, lifting and carrying light loads (up to 40 pounds), including boxes, equipment, unit-dose cassettes, and IV solutions, stooping, kneeling, walking and standing for long periods of time, and to be able to physically operate the equipment used for the job. Exposure to infectious patients or materials, hazardous and toxic substances, sticks or cuts by needles and other sharp items, and potential musculoskeletal injuries if proper lifting and carrying techniques are not used. OSHA: Bloodborne Pathogen Category III Employees in this job description are NEVER expected to have contact with bloodborne pathogens.
Familiarization with the Federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration''s Bloodborne Pathogen Standard (CFR 1910.1030) is given during orientation and annually.
