Provides direct and indirect medical care to a wide variety of primary care patients, including but not limited to: Internal Medicine, Family Practice, Pediatrics, Occupational Health Ser! vices, and acute/minor emergent problems in an office based setting.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
n

Demonstrates and models service excellence behavior at all times.

Responds with concern, cooperation, and respect.

Establishes cooperative working relationships with all individuals with whom contact is made.

n

Ensures the quality of health care services produces at the assigned Center, and compliance with managed care contracts and third party payors.

n

Utilizes appropriate and effective patient care plans including diagnostic procedures, therapies, and consultations when rendering care.

Completes charts concurrently as patients are seen.

n

Assures continuity of care through adequate scheduling and tracking of return visits, completion of treatment plans, and follow-up of chronic problems, abnormal tests, and “no-shows”.

n

Maintains pati! ent confidentiality.

n

Provides periodic hea! lth screening and preventive care including baseline and interval physical exams, cardiac risk appraisals, cancer screening (i.e., stool for occult blood, Pap smears, mammography referral, etc.), and all age-appropriate immunizations.

n

Provides appropriate patient education including clear explanation of diagnosis, treatment, and prognosis; the use and side effects of prescribed medications; health maintenance; and the use of appropriate educational

“handouts” or other written instructions.

n

Audits medical records of patient contracts at the Center on a daily basis including diagnostic reports and follow-up notes to assure compliance with VHMG policies, procedures, and guidelines.

n

Maintains minimum productivity range established for the assigned Center.

n

Monitors the Center’s staff performance (i.e., documentation, follow-up procedures, and other patient care issues).

Consul! ts with the Practice Manager or designee, and/or Director of Clinical Services regarding the implementation of developmental and corrective action measures.

Participates in the completion of staff performance evaluations.

n

Delegates clinical tasks and/or projects appropriate to the level of training of each staff

member.

Cooperates with staff regarding triage/patient flow.

Keeps front desk staff apprised of services rendered and accurate, specific diagnosis codes for each patient by completing billing/reimbursement documents.

n

Serves as “general supervisor” of the Center’s on-site laboratory.

Maintains familiarity with the Center’s on-site lab tests and associated procedures and equipment.

n

Utilizes infection controls and safety protocols appropriately.

n

Participates in the peer review process and other projects initiated by the Quality

n!

n

Management Committee to include development and re! view of clinical policies and procedures.

n

Counsels staff physicians to prevent repetition or deviations in standards of medical care.

Maintains documentation of counseling sessions with physicians involved.

Makes recommendations to the Corporate Medical Director/Quality Management Committee for changes/revisions/additions to medical protocols.

n

Schedules physician coverage to ensure the availability of a physician during all hours of operation and uninterrupted functioning of the Center.

Prepares the weekend on-call schedules and submits to the after-hours answering service in a timely manner.

n

Participates in the Center’s and group’s “on-call” schedules as needed.

Is available by pager for emergency calls from VHMG staff or physicians.

n

Identifies opportunities to improve processes, reports, or systems that take advantage of cost savings, employee satisf! action, and/or customer satisfaction.

Promotes and practices economical and effective health care.

n

Participates in the annual operating and capital expenditure budgetary process.

Adheres to budgeted expenses and achieves/exceeds targeted patient volume and revenues.

n

Participates in the Corporate and Center-specific business development and strategic planning process.

Supports actions that promote the achievement of VHMG’s strategic and tactical goals and objectives.

n

Completes all managed care applications as requested by the Corporate Office in a timely manner.

n

Ensures the professional development of self and team (i.e., pursues continuing education opportunities and shares knowledge as appropriate with other members of the health care team; participates in professional organizations; reads professional journals and texts; etc.).

n

Performs other du! ties as determined collaboratively with the Medical Director, and/or Ce! nter Supervisor that are within the scope of practice and policies of Valley Health Medical Group.

Qualifications:
n

MD or DO

n

Training or experience in a primary care specialtyâ€"Family Practice or Internal Medicine, and is Board Certified or Board Eligible.

Exceptions may be made for existing employees who demonstrate sufficient expertise in the provision of appropriate medical care.

n

Maintains up-to-date credentials including: CV, License, DEA, CDS, Board Certification, ACLS certification preferred, documentation of hospital admitting privileges, copies of managed care contracts.

Forwards same (i.e. upon renewal) to Director of Clinical Services at corporate office.

n

Maintains CME credit hours as required for Board Certification and/or hospital staff privileges (i.e., AMA PRA Certificate). Forwards same (i.e. upon renewal) to Director of Clinical Services at cor! porate office.
