Location: Cranford, New Jersey

Description: Union County College is at present recruited Skill Lab Coordinator right now, this vacancy will be presented in New Jersey. Provides Director and faculty with services associated with a Nursing Skill Lab Technician, including instruction and supervision of students, organization and maintenance of the Skill Lab resources, equipment, and supplies for student practice of nursing techniques, recommends additions to the skill lab resources, provides feedback to faculty on student attendance and progress and collaborates on the implementation of the curriculum through scenarios and case-studies, provides information to prospective students, represents the program at recruitment functions, works with the Director on new or ongoing projects to enhance the program, prepares reports on student use of skill lab when requested, offers tutorial sessions on course-related subjects, and provides classroom and/or clinical instruction, as necessary.

Characteristics, Duties, and Responsibilities

Posts weekly/monthly hours of supervised Lab operation.

Provides instruction and guidance in the safe and accurate performance of nursing techniques and skills that are included in the curriculum.

Guide students in the appropriate implementation of nursing skills.

Provides written and/or verbal feedback to faculty members on student progress/performance.

Maintains a neat and safe environment for student practice.

Prepares lab stations for student practice.

Updates the Skill and Simulation Lab Manual as required.

Organizes and maintains an inventory of equipment and supplies.

Recommends purchase of newly available or updated resources, including video or computer programs.

Provides updated information to faculty members and students on revisions to nursing techniques and/or new techniques and equipment.

Coordinates, develops, and implements scenarios and case studies for use with the simulated patient manikins.

Develops tools for use in student referral and evaluation.

Education Requirements

Bachelor’s Degree of Science in Nursing required. Master’s Degree of Nursing degree, preferred.

Competencies and Skills Required

Knowledge of current clinical practice guidelines.

Proficiency in the performance of nursing techniques that are commonly used in patient care in the medical/surgical, maternal/child, and pediatric setting.

Ability to teach and evaluate students’ performance of nursing techniques.

Ability to provide individual or group tutoring on course-related nursing content.

Ability to develop and implement patient scenarios and case studies for use with simulation manikins.

Effective verbal and written communication skills.

Ability to use Microsoft Office computer applications.

Ability to use multimedia/computer-assisted instructional materials and equipment.

Valid NJ Driver’s License for travel between campuses and to clinical sites, as necessary.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

This position’s duties are normally performed in a typical interior/residence work environment, based on the activity scheduled.

Some physical effort required; however, the employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.

No or very limited exposure to physical risk.

Some travel required.

Additional Information

Terms of Employment

Full Time. Flexible schedule to meet department needs. Some evening, weekends, and extended hours will be required. Ability and willingness to travel on short notice to all on and off- campus sites as needed by the college. Employee must establish primary residency in New Jersey within one year of appointment unless an exemption applies.
