Our Orthopedics, Spine, and Sports Medicine divisions offer innovative treatment options for adult and pediatric deformity correction, internal and external fracture fixation, biologics and bone growth stimulation, interbody fusion, minimally invasive surgery, and bracing.

The engineering intern/co-op’s primary responsibility is to help the Orthofix Spinal Implants (OSI) R&D team deliver innovative solutions to clinical problems through execution of project tasks. He/she may be asked to assist either the Product Development or Customs group with hitting aggressive project timelines. He/she will be involved in CAD design and modeling, drawing creations, overseeing prototype production, testing, processing ECN’s, and maintaining Design History Files. Expected to learn and conform to company Quality and Compliance policies while maintaining a high quality of work.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Communicate effectively with team l! eaders, members of cross-functional project teams, sales perso! nnel, and surgeon consultants.

Participate in the design and development of innovative spinal implants and instruments.

Create/edit models and drawings in SolidWorks.

Create drawings and release them via ECN/ECO processes.

Follow company Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and Work Instructions (WI).

Required Skills

Qualifications:
3-D CAD modeling and drafting skills, preferably SolidWorks

Familiarity with basic machine component design and manufacture

General knowledge of medical materials (i.e. titanium alloys, stainless steels, etc.)

Technical writing ability

MS Office (Word, Excel, Powerpoint) proficiency

Strong time management and communication skills

“Can-do” attitude and willingness to learn

Demonstrated leadership ability

Willingness to work in cadaveric or surgical environments if required

Previous experience in medi! cal device design or a machine shop is a plus

Currently pursuing a bachelors degree in either (1) Mechanical Engineering or (2) Biomedical Engineering with a biomechanics focus

Completed Freshman year (at minimum) at start of internship/co-op

GPA: 3.2 minimum

Physical Demands:
Occasionally required to lift and move objects up to 50 lbs.

Frequently required to sit for long periods of time.

Lewisville, TX, US or Fairfield, NJ â€" At this time, no relocation or temporary housing assistance is available.
