The Pediatrician-Inpatient is responsible for providing clinical care to patients admitted to Children's Specialized Hospital. While promoting high standards of evidence-based practice, the Inpatient physician will coordinate and lead multi-disciplinary care in an effective and efficient manner to the designated patient population. The Pediatrician-Inpatient will be responsible for enacting high standards of care in accordance with CSH clinical protocols and practice guidelines. The physician will practice in both the acute rehabilitation site in New Brunswick as well as in Long Term Care facilities. The physician will be available to clinical and ancillary staff as well as to family members for the advancement of clinical care to our patient population. The Pediatrician-Inpatient will join an existing team of practicing physicians and advanced practice nurses and will share in clinical and on-call responsibilities.
Essential Job Functions

Examines patients, orders, performs, and interprets diagnostic tests to obtain information on medical condition, determine diagnosis and implement appropriate treatment.

Displays competency in delivering evidence-based clinical practice to medically complex patients admitted to Children's Specialized Hospital. Demonstrates proficient understanding of diagnosis, pertinent medical findings, goal-directed care, and medical interventions needed for patients through bedside clinical practice, care planning, and written documentation.

Communicates and coordinates effectively with other Inpatient and Outpatient APNs and Physicians.

Works collaboratively with members of the inpatient care team in the care delivery with the goal of optimizing every child's full potential.

Understands the transition from an acute care setting to inpatient rehabilitation and works to coordinate the safe transition of care between settings. Recognizes the intermittent need for elevation in care setting and successfully works to safely transition patients to the clinical environment of their need.

Will communicate effectively with patients, families, and all members of the multidisciplinary team as care plans develop and evolve over the course of a child's admission. Will document effectively in the electronic health record, including, but not limited to, required daily progress notes on complex patients, acute event notes detailing change in clinical status, recording details of rapid responses, transfer notes, and completion of history and physicals.

Recognizes the need for continuity and completeness of care, above and beyond needs.

Participates in the inpatient on-call rotation schedule, providing medical oversight to the inpatient population during on-call time periods.

Communicate and incorporate relevant research findings into practice, education, and consultation. Will communicate, when needed, with insurance medical directors to clarify patient care plans.

Maintain credentials, licensure, or permit according to professional practice standards and relevant statues and regulations.

Complies and practices in accordance with Childrenâs Specialized Hospital Medical Staff Bylaws, rules and regulations, and policies and procedures.
Formal Education and Job-Related Experience
Knowledge of and experience in management of children with a wide variety of medically complex conditions, including technology dependence and ventilator management, and the ability direct care throughout the inpatient rehabilitation stay, at times during acute illness or emergency conditions.

AHA BLS and PALS Provider Certification required
License

Current NJ medical license or eligibility. Current DEA registration. Formal medical training, MD or DO. Board certification or board eligibility in Pediatrics a must. All practitioners will obtain board certification within six (6) years of joining the Medical Staff and maintain such certification in good standing while exercising privileges at the Hospital. Recertification shall be required in accordance with the rules of the applicable certification board. Prior experience with Pediatric medical complexity and chronic disease preferred. Prior Pediatric Inpatient or Hospitalist work also preferred but not required.
