Job Title: ED Outpatient Coder Perth Amboy, NJ

This is a full time position is working for our client company in the Perth Amboy, NJ area.

Our client company is a hospital with 2 locations that is Licensed for 501 beds with a medical staff of more than 600, provides medical-surgical, maternity, pediatric, diagnostic imaging, laboratory and general and critical care, as well as adult behavioral health, emergency and interventional cardiac and same day surgery services.

I.SUMMARY
Review clinical documentation and diagnostic results as appropriate to extract data and apply appropriate ICD-9 CM/ICD-10 CM and CPT-4 codes for billing, internal and external reporting, research, and regulatory compliance. Under the direction of the director of Health Information Management, manager-Clinical Coding, or manager-Medical Records Services, accurately code outpatient (for example, diagnostic, therapeutic! , emergency department services, ambulatory surgery (same day ! surgery), and observation service encounters) conditions and procedures as documented in the ICD-9-CM Official Guidelines for Coding and Reporting. Resolve error reports associated with billing process, identify and report error patterns, and, when necessary, assist in design and implementation of workflow changes to reduce billing errors. The ED Outpatient Coder reviews staff coding assignments for accuracy and assurance. The ED Outpatient Coder supports computer system when updates are required. The ED Outpatient Coder codes ED outpatient charts, which includes interpreting a patient's medical chart. These systems allow the data to be organized and easily accessible for patient history, services provided and for insurance and billing purposes. The coders assign and identify the information by using the accurate ICD-9-CM and CPT codes. Coders are responsible in making sure the assigned codes meet all federal, legal and insurance regulations to service payments are obtained! in a timely fashion. The ED Outpatient Coder assists Director in other HIM department activities/functions.

VI.JOB REQUIREMENTS:
1.EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum successful completion of an AHIMA-approved Coding Certificate Program.
  • Associate's Degree or equivalent training acquired through, at least, two years of progressive on-the-job experience.
  • RHIA, RHIT, CCS, CCS-P or certification status preferred.

DUTIES

II.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Utilizes technical coding principals and APC reimbursement expertise to assign appropriate ICD-9-CM/ICD-10-CM diagnoses and ICD-9-CM/ICD-10-CM/CPT-4 procedures.
  • Identifies chargeable items for emergency department visits and enter into bi! lling system.
  • Extracts required information from source docume! ntation and enters into encoder and abstracting system.
  • Performs coding/abstracting/keying duties on a timely basis to comply with the hospitals benchmark: outpatient 7 days.
  • Maintains and follow up system to ensure all ED records are coded.
  • Abstracts and keys diagnostic/procedural/other patient and clinical data into the computerized patient information systems.
  • Assists internal requestors with assignment of codes ADC information as necessary.
  • Reviews daily system-generated error reports to correct or complete missing data elements.
  • Coordinates daily workflow of medical records, monitoring unbilled accounts report for outstanding un-coded accounts that must be coded and assigned to coding staff as necessary.
  • Assists in implementing solutions to reduce back-end billing errors.
  • Abides by the Standards of Ethical Coding as set forth by the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) and adh! eres to official coding guidelines.
  • Interacts with physicians to clarify and accurately document patient diagnostic and procedural information.
