1.1 The age of the clients served: ___ under 1 year; ___ 1-4 yrs; ___ 5-12 yrs; ___13-17 yrs; ___18-22 yrs
1.2 The primary p! urpose of this position
1.2.1 The Pediatric Nurse Practitioner serves as a consultant and provides professional pediatric expertise for the assigned programs, areas and/or units as well as conducts professional pediatric examinations and treatments for clients, to perform clinical and administrative duties in a medical role
SECTION 2 Duties and Responsibilities
2.1 Provides clinical treatment to clients and families
2.1.1 Assesses physical status of clients in YCS facilities.
2.1.2 Providing quality client care that meets the established standard of Advanced Nursing Practice.
2.1.3 Initial medical assessment of clients and their needs within program time frame guidelines.
2.1.4 Prescribes and orders medications and lab tests according to mutually agreed upon protocols between the Advanced Practice Nurse and Collaborating Physician.
2.1.5 Incorporates multi-disciplinary approach to client care¬
2.1.6 Monitors all aspects of Medical M! ilieu making sure that they meet the needs of the current popu! lation.
2.1.7 Perform medical evaluations and render diagnosis in accordance with Clinical Guidelines of Family Practice.
2.1.8 Attends multi-disciplinary team meetings as needed to identify problems and set goals/outcomes and necessary interventions.
2.1.9 Evaluate need for medication and prescribe medications and devices subject to the following:
An order is written in accordance with the joint protocols developed in agreement between the Advanced Practice Nurse and the Collaborating Physician.
2.1.10 The collaborating physician is present or readily available through electronic communications for consultation and reviews records as clinically indicated
2.1.11 Initiates consultations with other physicians or health-related professionals as clinically indicated
2.2 Documentation
2.2.1 Review and Prepares written records of clients
2.2.2 Review and Authorizes agency orders by signing Physician Order Forms monthly and as needed
2.! 2.3 Prescribes medications/treatments upon discharge according to mutually agreed upon protocols between the Advanced Practice Nurse and Collaborating Physician and completes the medical discharge summary
2.2.4 Any other relevant documentation as required
2.3 Maintains quality of services
2.3.1 Adheres to relevant professional association code of conduct
2.3.2 Adheres to the policies and procedures of Youth Consultation Service
2.4 Leads treatment team members
2.4.1 Coordinates the therapeutic regime
2.4.2 Provides the necessary clinical supervision and oversight of the clinical staff
2.4.3 Mentors other staff members on the therapeutic approach and provide clinical supervision
2.5 Maintains documentation in client files
2.5.1 Establishes, updates, and maintains pediatric diagnostic, monitoring and treatment information in client files
2.6 Acts as liaison for clients and families
2.6.1 Assists clients in ac! cessing resources within and outside of YCS
2.7 Other knowledg! e, skills, and abilities required
2.7.1 Demonstrate knowledge of principles and practices in taking vital signs; maintaining records and monitoring lab/test results
2.7.2 Demonstrate ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with clients, medical staff and the public.
2.7.3 Demonstrate ability to exercise good judgment in evaluating situations and choosing an appropriate course of action
2.7.4 Demonstrate ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
2.7.5 Ability to maintain quality control standards.
2.7.6 Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
2.7.7 Ability to read, understand and respond to detailed oral and written instructions; as well as to communicate instructions clearly
2.7.8 Knowledge of child mental health and psychiatric disorders
2.7.9 Ability to perform first aid and CPR
2.7.10 Knowledge of medicationsâ purpose and side effects
2.7.11 Strong knowled! ge of nursing regulations
2.7.12 Knowledge of child health disorders
2.7.13 Skilled at pediatric health assessment
2.7.14 Ability to manage time to deal with multiple responsibilities and accomplish daily duties.
2.7.15 Must be able to make decisions and judgment based on the Medical Policy and Procedure Manual.
2.7.16 Must be able to take direction and carry out instructions from physician
2.7.17 Strong leadership, management and supervisory skills
2.7.18 Able to provide Health Education for staff and clients
2.8 Interpersonal Skills
2.8.1 Demonstrates empathy and compassion in conduct towards clients
2.8.2 Demonstrates respect, cooperation, consideration and tact in dealing with subordinates, peers, supervisors and others
2.9 The employee will cooperate with the licensee and the applicable State department or division licensing unit with any legally mandated inspections or investigations
SECTION 3 Education Require! ments
3.1 Masterâs degree from an accredited school of Nursing
3..2 Current NJ State licensure to practice; as a licensed or certified Advanced Practice Nurse/Nurse Practitioner (APN)
3.3 ANCC certification to practice as a Pediatric or Family Practice APN
3.4 Prescriptive Privileges in the State of NJ
3.5 CDS and DEA Number in State of NJ preferred
SECTION 4 Experience required
4.1 1 year of full-time work related experience preferred
SECTION 5 Training and other requirements
5.1 Maintains and updates knowledge base in medical health field
5.2 Maintains current Advanced Practice Nurse Certification through the State Board of Nursing
5.2 Maintain CPR, First Aid and YCS Medication Administration Certification
5.3 Maintain yearly core competency training and credentialing and privileging as required by YCS and state regulations
5.4 Provides teaching, guidance and support and resource information for the optimal management of acute and chronic ! medical treatment.
5.6 Must be legally permitted to work in the United States and pass a criminal background check
